According to The Wrap, the petition created by Star Wars fans asks for "a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess".

In the wake of Carrie Fisher's death, fans are petitioning to make her Star Wars character, Princess Leia, an official Disney Princess.

Fans have created an online petition through Change.org to ask Disney to include Princess Leia. Disney bought the Star Wars franchise when they purchased LucasFilm in 2012. Traditionally, Disney only has animated princesses in their official group.

The petition reads: "This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney's new properties that is beloved by millions."

The beloved comedian and actress died on December 27th, after suffering a major heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles.
