Pedro Pascal is tackling another powerful queer role!
The handsome actor has proudly represented the LGBTQ+ community in several of his projects, including notable parts in Strange Way of Life and Game of Thrones. Now, Pascal is about to make a big step in his career by starring as the queer main lead in the upcoming film De Noche, which is his first R-rated, full-length feature film.
In the movie, Pascal plays a hard-boiled detective who enters into a passionate, forbidden affair with a schoolteacher and is forced to flee to Mexico. The film originally had an NC-17 rating, but in a recent interview with Variety, director Todd Haynes chose to focus on the emotional depth and vulnerability of the relationship rather than explicit, prurient visual content. As a result, De Noche has officially earned an R-rating.
De Noche has experienced quite a few changes since the conception as Joaquin Phoenix was originally cast in Pascal's role. After taking over the role, gay fans rejoiced as they can't get enough of Pascal on their screens. After all, the talented actor has been widely celebrated as a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community by actively supporting his transgender sister, actress Lux Pascal.
In fact, the siblings made a joint red carpet appearance this week at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of his new film Behemoth!, where he plays a renowned, prolific cellist who returns to Los Angeles to compose film scores. The pair can be seen hugging as they pose for an adorable photo.
Pascal has always defended his sister throughout his career. In an interview with Esquire, he described her as "one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known. My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me." One of the recent times the siblings were seen together was at the Emmy Awards in January 2024.
