In a tearful, heartful video to Instagram, reality television star Chrishell Stause announced that she and her spouse, nonbinary Australian drummer G Flip, have separated after 4 years.
“I have a pretty humbling update to share with your guys,” she said in a video posted to Instagram on Monday afternoon. “G and I are no longer together and we have agreed to treat this public separation with love and respect for each other. It’s not hard for me because I am in love with this person and I don’t have all the information or the reasons.”
Stause first shared her relationship with G Flip on a May 2022 reunion episode of Selling Sunset, proceeding to appear in the musician’s music video for the single “Get Me Outta Here.” In May 2023, the couple shared that they were married; the pair continued to renew their vows annually at themed ceremonies with friends and loved ones. In her emotional Instagram video, Stause did not offer a specific catalyst for the split.
She continued, “I’m sure just like always with time, you get the lessons you’re meant to get and I know that will happen and I’m gonna heal and everything’s gonna be fine. I’m definitely never doing this again but I just felt like you guys deserved a little bit more than a cold written statement because you have been so supportive and have been so loving and we really appreciate that. Maybe you can still do that but it would have to be separately.”
Stause visibly fought back tears as the statement continued. “I don’t know what else to say, you guys, I feel like a little bit of a failure,” she went on. “There’s nothing you can say about me that would be worse than what I say about myself. I just have to kind of heal and figure this out. It’s hard. It’s painful. I’m a lover girl. I swing big. I miss. Or maybe you don’t miss. These are the life and seasons you’re meant to have with people and I had an amazing over four years with G, so maybe that’s not a miss. Maybe it’s just you coming to terms with it being a different thing than you had imagined.”
In the comments, fans sounded off in support of both Stause and G Flip. Over the years, fans watched their love blossom against the deeply heteronormative backdrop of Selling Sunset, which Stause exited last year after nine increasingly contentious seasons. Many people in the comments section maintain that they will continue to support the two of them, even after their separation.
“You are both so loved,” Matt Bernstein, content creator and podcast host, wrote under the post.
“I am SO SORRY,” actress and singer Tori Allen-Martin wrote. “Keep swinging big, you never miss when you have a lover girl heart. No really. You should be so proud of you!!!”
Stause concluded her video message on an uncertain note. “I don’t know what I hope for myself,” she said. “It’s really hard and stressful to share this information because I’m kind of going through it but I will always love G and I don’t ever really see that changing, and this sucks but everyone deserves to be happy and I wish that for both of us.”
Shortly after Stause’s video went live, G Flip shared a brief update on Instagram. “After 4+ years Chrishell and I are no longer together,” they wrote. “I will always love her, we will always share a special connection and I cherish our memories together deeply ❤️ My head & heart are feeling very heavy right now and I’m not able to talk but I want to thank you all for your support and appreciate you respecting our privacy at this difficult time.”
