Hunter Schafer Addressed That Anti-Nonbinary Instagram Like

“I am not a transmedicalist, and my ideology around transness does not align with transmedicalism, nor a disdain towards nb identifying people.”

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has responded to claims she was espousing transmedicalist beliefs and attacking nonbinary trans people with recent social media activity.

Nearly two weeks after the actress liked and commented a series of exclamation points on an Instagram post blaming nonbinary trans people for some of the hate aimed at the trans community, she's spoken out on the backlash she faced.

"Also, while we are here, I hold absolutely no hatred towards nonbinary folks," Schafer wrote in a comment on her latest Instagram post. "I agreed with another t-girl's post in which she pointed out an inbalance in the visibility and space taken up between nonbinary folks and binary trans women (particularly those of color and/or those who have resulted to sex work as a means of survival) that I think deserves attention/re-evaluation (as far as resources and platforms go) within the LGBTQ+ community."

"I am not a transmedicalist, and my ideology around transness does not align with transmedicalism, nor a disdain towards nb identifying people," she added.

Schafer had gotten in trouble for liking and commenting on an Instagram post that talked about the differences in experiences between binary trans people who medically transition and nonbinary trans people who don't.

The post said that nonbinary people who "fought to have trans identities no longer considered a medical condition" should be happy because Florida declared that gender-affirming healthcare isn't deemed "medically necessary."

"Y'all just couldn't stand to let binary trans people be the voice of this community," the post continues. "You had to dismantle all of the guidelines around being trans to fit your narrative so you could feel valid and then you demonized trans people who challenged your ideals and called them truscum/transmedicalists."

"What you don't understand is that binary trans women and men don't have the luxury of playing around with what it means to be trans the same way that you do," it says. "You challenge gender ideologies from the safety of a cis body that requires no medical treatment. We have to play the game and live by the guidelines that cis people have created for us because that is how we survive."

While Schafer's new post and apology have gotten over a million likes, many in the comments are still angry with Schafer.

"Except the whole post was a white transmedicalist blaming nonbinary trans people for the right-wing fascist push to harm all trans people, who tokenized Black binary trans women at the end of it to seem more valid," one commenter said. "And Black binary trans women have responded to this post, look up Kat Blaque on YouTube for instance."

Still, others are on Schafer's side, with one person commenting, "honestly don't think any sane trans person (who goes outside on a regular basis) legitimately thought '!!!' was worth losing our minds over."
