Daytime Emmy-winning actress Anne Heche has passed away at the age of 53, her family confirms.
The actress, who was best known for her roles in projects like the NBC soap Another World and Gus Van Sant's Psycho remake, was involved in a fiery car crash last week, August 5, in Los Angeles.
Though her family had hoped for recovery following the accident, Heche was taken off of life support on Thursday, according to a report from Deadline.
"We want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne's recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles," a representative for Heche's family and friends told the trade publication in a statement. "Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive."
Besides her acting credits, Heche was also known for being in a high-profile relationship with longtime actress and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres from 1997 to 2000, which was around the time of DeGeneres' public, headline-making coming out.
Heche is survived by her two sons.
