The famous artist wasn't just known for his prowess with a paintbrush!
Ryan Murphy's new Netflix docuseries The Andy Warhol Diaries is causing a buzz about the late artist, and people who knew him are starting to reminisce about what made him such an icon.
One person sharing his memories of the artist is Richard Dupont, one-half of the self-named, hard-partying Dupont Twins who were regulars at the famous Studio 54 nightclub in the '70s. The Duponts moved to New York from Connecticut in 1977 when they were 17 and met Warhol and began regularly partying with him.
"I was Andy Warhol's Valentine in 1979," Dupont told Page Six. "Andy told me at Regine's in NYC that he loved me, and I told Andy I love him. Andy was a great kisser."
Unfortunately, the relationship didn't last long, as Warhol's assistant Rupert was dating Richard's twin Robert, and when that relationship ended, Warhol ended his with Richard.
"[Warhol] said to me, 'I need to make money, Richard...and Rupert makes money. I can't have you around all the time because you will remind Rupert of your brother Robert,'" Dupont recalled.
This isn't the first time we've heard Warhol's associates fondly remembering him as a sexual dynamo.
In a podcast episode last year, Club Kid James St. James was interviewing nightlife legend Dianne Brill about what it was like to be in the scene back in the '80s, and what it was like partying with Warhol.
"Well, he did have a big penis and he did have sex," Brill replied. "I just want you to know that. I want to say that because no one ever says that and I think everyone should really know that. I think it's something wonderful."
Warhol was famous for being open and unapologetically gay in the '70s and '80s, but famously stated in an interview in the early '80s that he was a virgin. As the years go on, we find more and more evidence of how untrue that was.
The Andy Warhol Diaries is now streaming on Netflix.
