Stephanie Beatriz Expertly Busts Down Myths About Being Bisexual

Just in time for Bi+ Visibility Day!

Today is Bi+ Visibility Day, and while we're proud to be celebrating the B in LGBTQ+, it's very unfortunate that bisexual folks in the community still have to go through a lot of the same erasure, questioning, and other struggles that they've been plagued with for decades now.

Luckily for us, we have out-and-proud bi icon and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz to help us slay those incredibly irritating and pervasive myths/misconceptions that too many people still have when it comes to being bisexual!

In a new, chuckle-worthy PSA made by Netflix's LGBTQ+ storytelling team Most, Beatriz (while sitting in a room that is beautifully illuminated with bisexual lighting) is busting down a ton of pesky bi myths that include bisexuality reinforcing the gender binary, bi people having six toes, and bi folks having the uncanny ability to read minds (just to name a few).

"Honestly, I still can't believe this is still a thing," she says about another myth relating to bi people being half-straight, half-horse. "All bi people are unique. Some of us are five percent horse, some of us are 75 percent horse, and some of us don't appreciate being called centaurs, okay? Respect people's preferences."

"Bisexuality is NOT a phase," Beatriz says on a more serious note later on in the video. "It's not a behavior, it's not something bi people evolve out of. (Gross!) It's a whole identity, and it's here to stay."

Amen, Stephanie!
