David Burtka on Morphine in Neil Patrick Harris Clip Is Comedic Gold

Burtka had undergone spinal surgery, and the drug was freely flowing at the push of a button.

Neil Patrick Harris shared a heartwarmingly hilarious video of husband David Burtka under the influence of painkillers following recent spinal fusion surgery, and let's just say the off-script patient was clearly feeling no pain.

"Yo, yo, yo," the clearly sedated Burtka said in the video. "I'm bringing...this is the new fashions for 2021. I'm going to bedazzle it when I get out of here."

Burtka was referring to the large brace encasing and immobilizing his neck.

Harris had earlier posted a pic of his husband in hospital wearing a gown and brace, and surrounded by medical equipment. The veteran actor who can be seen in Russell T. Davies's It's A Sin explained Burtka had undergone a preplanned, seven-hour procedure to fuse three discs in his back and neck.

"It's one of the scarier, more hopeless feelings - hoping for the best, trying not to fear the worst, waiting a call with news," wrote in the post. "Thankfully, all went according to plan. Whew..! Two thumbs up."

Neither Harris or Burtka seemed very worried in the hilarious video posted not long after.

"He's going in and out of lucidness, and he has a button he pushes..." giggled Harris, speaking of the medical device that released morphine intravenously into Burtka's wrist.

"I think it's been time to push the button," Burtka exclaimed suddenly. "Where's my pain pill?"

"Here's the button honey," said the helpful Harris, holding back laughter at his high-as-a-kite husband.

"Watch this," Burtka said as he pressed the button. "Listen to this."

The device dinged once, and Burtka began to slowly drift off to someplace unknown.

"Morrrppphine," he blissfully moaned.

Harris did not provide much further information on Burtka's prognosis other than to encouragingly note all was going according to plan. The pair are parents to 10-year-old twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott Burtka-Harris. The loving family are famous for their all-out Halloween costumes, with no expenses spared to get the absolute right look.

Harris made news recently when he added to the current discussion regarding straight actors playing queer roles. While Russell T. Davies and others feel those roles should be reserved for queer actors, Harris expressed a different point of view when he said he thought there was "something sexy about casting a straight actor to play a gay role, if they're willing to invest in it."

So how did Burtka describe the feeling of morphine.

"Like the bottom of the ocean," replied Burtka dreamily.
