Superman's Boyfriend Got Him the Perfect New Cape For Pride Month

Superman's Boyfriend Got Him the Perfect New Cape For Pride Month

superman and his boyfriend

It all unfolds in the DC Pride 2022 anthology.

We all loved when Jonathan Kent (a.k.a. Superman) came out as bisexual and got a boyfriend in the pages of Superman: Son of Kal-El #5 last fall -- and now that boyfriend is helping the superhero upgrade his costume in the best way for Pride season.

In a new story in the upcoming DC Pride comic anthology, Kent's boyfriend, reporter Jay Nakamura, gifts Superman with a new cape, one that's perfect for the bisexual superhero.

Colorist Triona Tree Farrell shared a few panels from the upcoming anthology story she worked on, showing a touching scene where Jay surprises Jon with a gift. When he opens it up, he sees it's a new red cape, but the inside is adorned with the colors of Pride flags.

In the short glimpse of the cape that we see, we can tell that it has a Pansexual Pride flag, a Bisexual Pride flag, a Trans Pride flag, an Ace Pride flag, and Nonbinary Pride flag stripes. As he opens it, Superman has a loving smile on his face.

The story, "Super Pride," by Devin Grayson, with art by Nick Robles and Aditya Bidikar, is just one of many in the upcoming DC Pride 2022 anthology. Other stories feature queer heroes like Batwoman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Nubia, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and Dreamer.

We don't know if Superman will ever wear the new cape beyond this comic, but still, it's nice to see the iconic costume get an upgrade that celebrates his queerness.

To check out the whole story and see his new cape for yourself, you can buy DC Pride 2022 in comic book stores on May 31.
