Alexander Wang to Launch Menswear

Alexander Wang
has set all his female fans' hearts aflame season after season by making decidedly cool clothes for sexy and downtown-y types without neglecting luxury and quality. That combination has created a multi-million dollar business in the short span of just a few years. And while menswear may not have been at the top of his to-do list, the industry and customers had other plans.

According to Style.com, Wang felt that after his nomination and win for Best New Menswear Designer of the Year Award for his secondary casual line T, the editors at GQ strongly encouraged him to start expanding his menswear offerings. Now, for next fall, Wang is doing just that. He doesn't mix up his finely tuned equation, and that's a good thing. Sexy leather outerwear, posh updates to casual mainstays and an insouciant slouchiness permeate the small collection. "It started with a lot utilitarian references, something that I've always felt a close attraction to," Wang continued. "And the idea of mixing--I've always liked to take something very dressy and bring it down, [take] something very, very casual and elevate it," Wang told Style.com. So while many designers find themselves struggling in the still sluggish recovering economy, Wang finds himself in a strange predicament: to answer the public's demand and continue an expansion of his hot as fire label's current offerings. Welcome to the boys' club, Alexander.
