"Just as I thought...trash." That's how it felt watching the RuPaul's Drag Race Holi-Slay Spectacular, seeing how little Jasmine Masters was featured. Masters is a meme icon and soon to be All Star, so how is it possible that she would have no confessionals and no commentary during her runway?
Drag Race fans had similar questions and Masters had no problem spilling the tea. In an hour-long Instagram live session after the episode aired, the queen revealed the reason she was left out of certain parts of the special: "So why you don't see no confessionals of me? Honestly, it's because I left," she said. Clips of the stream were posted to Twitter while it can be found, in full, on Masters's own YouTube channel.
According to Masters, tensions ran high on set because of Shangela's tardiness. "Everything we had a call time on doing, Shangela's ass was late. And by that second day, I could not have no more of this girl showing up late [and] taking 45 minutes extra to get ready...My nerves could not take no more. I have shit to do."
Masters explained that as the queens waited to film a scene before lunch, Shangela was nowhere to be found. When Masters went looking for her, she found Shangela chatting with producers and asked her to come back to set so they could finish and the queens could eat. Shangela allegedly got defensive and when she hadn't returned to set 15-20 minutes later, Masters packed up her things and left.
The All Stars 4 contestant also revealed that the Holi-Slay special took two days two film, with the queens needing to be in full drag by 8:30am each morning and shooting until 9pm. The reason she wore a bag over her head for her lip sync performance? She had sweat all of her makeup off between getting dressed and filming and didn't know the words to the song.
Masters says Shangela tried to call and apologize for adding stress to an already stressful shoot. Her response? "Girl I don't wanna hear all that."
Editor's note: OUT has reached out to Shangela for a statement and will update when and if we receive one.
