After sharing her opinions about Donald Trump at a recent show in Tampa, Florida, Amy Schumer's audience shrunk by a couple hundred people. That's because around 200 Floridians chose to walk out of the theater after hearing Schumer call Trump an "orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster," CBS News reports.
Politics mixed with comedy should come as no surprise to Schumer's fans: In her latest memoir, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, Schumer included a section at the back on how to take action toward gun-control legislation. Her Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, often tackles hot political issues in a satirical way, and in interviews and past sets she's been quite vocal about her support for Hillary Clinton.
Some audience members took to Twitter to voice their complaints with Schumer's political show:
“Hey @amyschumer leave the political stuff out of your comedy shows. We came to laugh not talk politics. We can turn On CNN and NBC for that😊”— Luisa Metallo (@Luisa Metallo) 1476672044
“@amyschumer you ruined my night. spent 300 for a comedy show. Then you went on a political path that was rude and disrespectful to Tampa.”— Nick (@Nick) 1476667379
Schumer responded with this:
And, to Vanity Fair, Schumer said: "I loved the crowd and my show in Tampa last night! I want to thank the 8400 people who stayed. We had a great time! We have always depended on comedians to make us laugh and tell the truth. I am proud to continue that tradition."
