Sure, 54 may for all intents and purposes be considered one of the biggest flops of the 1990s, but now that the director’s cut is making its way through the festival circuit and getting rave reviews, it deserves to be revisited by everyone.
Considering its poor initial reception and current position as a cult favorite, the tale about one of Studio 54’s most popular figures during its iconic time can only get better. Exhibit A: The exclusive clip that ET premiered of Ryan Phillippe arguing with his father about whether or not Studio 54 was the right place for him (what kind of question is that?), then starts dancing shirtless behind the bar while Breckin Meyer is watching.
The director’s cut of 1998 film, starring Phillippe, Meyer, Mike Myers, and Salma Hayek, comes out tomorrow, June 2. It features a previously deleted kiss between Phillippe and Breckin Meyer.
