Halloween 2015: Easy Costume Dos and Don’ts

Halloween 2015: Easy Costume Dos and Don’ts

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kim Davis

Timely costumes that can vary in dedication and sexiness.

Halloween is this weekend, and for those of us who haven't had an intricate costume planned for weeks or longer, it's crunch time. If you don't have a costume idea yet, here are some pivotal moments of pop culture from this year that can be turned out in time for your weekend plans.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg - She helped pass marriage equality, delivered a scalding dissent in the Hobby Lobby case, and was an all-around badass this year. You'll need a black robe, a doily, a pair of large glasses, and a wig pulled into a tight bun. Bonus: pick up a crown and go as "The Notorious RBG," or go as a "sexy" RBG and just wear a bit of black cloth, the neck doily, underwear, and combat boots.Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Superheroes - Do yourself a favor and don't buy some pre-packaged, overpriced jumpsuit with a bad mask. The best costumes, regardless of the subject, are the ones that people make themselves. Buy your own spandex or your own underwear to go with the costume. If you're especially devoted you can even have someone help you paint your suit on with liquid latex and then sexily tear it off as the night goes on.

Caitlyn Jenner - Ok, she doesn't care if you dress up as her, but if you feel the need to straddle the line of political correctness, at least do Jenner a favor and don't go as the low-rent version. Ignore the cheap bustier costume crammed into a bag, and definitely don't pick the track-star medalist one. Pick one of her many classy looks from the rest of the year, like her red driving ensemble for Vanity Fair or her gorgeous gown at the ESPYs.

Kim Davis - Every costume list needs a scary option, and this year Kim Davis is the far favorite. The unflattering clothes can be bought for pennies at any thrift store, her hair already looks like a bad wig so there's some more frugality. All you'll need to finish the look is a good makeup tutorial, since you probably don't have multiple failed marriages and having children out of wedlock to wear at your face. Kim Davis
