Scottish First Minister Helps Gay Couple Get Engaged

At a town meeting, Nicola Sturgeon proposed to a man on behalf of his boyfriend. 

The legalization of same-sex marriage in Scotland last year helped propel the small northern nation to the top of the 2014 Rainbow Europe Index, making it the best place in Europe for LGBT rights. Then-First Minister Alex Salmond and his Scottish National Party led the charge on the overwhelmingly popular measure, which passed by a margin of 108:15 in the Scottish Parliament. Thinking back on the achievement, current First Minister Nicola Sturgeon told Out:

"I am personally proud that as Health Secretary, I led the consultation which started this journey."

At a townhall meeting in Oban, in the west of Scotland, Sturgeon took her support of gay couples one step further, helping two men get engaged:
