Evripidis and His Tragedies Shares Campy Queer 'Dreamboat' Video
Captured in 16 mm by Spanish director David Domingo.
"You're my dreamboat and I want to sail the seven seas with you," sings Evripidis and his Tragedies on "Dreamboat:" a sunny, piano-led single about sensationally insecure queer romance. Fronted by Evripidis Sabatis, the Barcelona-based band's track is lifted off their third studio album, Futile Games in Space and Time, and accompanies a music video that underlines the anxieties of sharing deeply personal art with the world.
The video was directed by David Domingo--AKA Stanley Sunday--who's regarded as one of Spanish underground cinema's most important figures today. Inspired by Bergman's film, The Magic Flute, the "Dreamboat" visual is campy and nostalgic, as Sabatis plays music for an uninterested crowd. "I hope you are digging the song," he urges at one point, before sticking his penis through a glory hole with no receiver--symbolic of making music for this apathetic audience.
Evripidis and his Tragedies will be playing a number of Europen music festivals this summer, including Benicasism in Spain and Indietracks in the UK in support of it. Futile Games in Space and Time is available here, and you can watch "Dreamboat," below (2:20 for the NSFW boner scene):
