Trailer Trash: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The trailer premiered last night at the MTV Movie Awards. So we took an office poll.

Last night the official trailer for The Perks of Being a Wallflower premiered. The film is written and directed by Stephen Chbosky, who also wrote the best-selling coming-of-age novel of the same name. It's set to hit theaters on September 14, so the trailer is just the first sneak peek. And it has some of our favorite things: Ezra Miller, Emma Watson (kind of), and Paul Rudd. Plus, the film's star, Logan Lerman, is gonna be huge. We promise. Watch the trailer and then read our staff's reaction below.

This is what we thought so far:

Adam Rathe: I have high hopes for this. It reminds me a bit of Roger Avery's take on Bret Easton Ellis' Rules of Attraction, though I do hope that the story is fucked with as much as it was in that movie. Still, same young, wild, crazy feeling. Plus I loved the book and can't wait to see it on the big screen--even if the copy I recently bought after giving mine away years ago has some bullshit movie tie-in on the cover. I hate that.

Jerry Portwood: I love seeing Ezra Miller looking all happy and gay after he was evil Kevin. He really looks like Tilda Swinton's child now! For some reason Emma Watson just annoys me here. And cute Logan Lerman really looks like he could be a miniature Paul Rudd. Oh, Paul Rudd doing classic Paul Rudd, not the new, wry, comedian Paul Rudd. Like Clueless with a clue!

Lara Behnert: I hear the book is great, but boy, have they Hollywooded that trailer! Right now it looks like Heathers without all the croquet, murder or Martha Dumptruck.

Alex Panisch: The trailer's all very twee, almost too much so. I think I like sociopath Ezra Miller more than flamboyant Ezra Miller. The trailer doesn't make me terribly excited to see the film but I'm still going to see it anyway. Emma seems like she'll be really good in it. I think I'm looking forward to her performance most of all.
