Forget the “rules” — just be who you want to be!

Happy astrological new year! The Sun enters Aries on the 20th, the day of the Spring Equinox. The days are getting longer and the end of winter is nigh, at last.

This is an especially auspicious Equinox because it aligns with a New Moon in Aries. New Moons are great times to set intentions for the next six months until it is full again in the same sign. It's time to get excited about your summer plans and spend way too much money on a new Charlie swimsuit.

The New Moon in Aries tells us that we have nothing to prove. Too often, we are asked by society to edit ourselves based on how we are expected to be perceived. We can’t be flamboyant, can’t be too queer, can’t defy gender norms, can't stuff our pandemic bodies into a speedo. Well, forget that! Let's be straightforward, active, and resilient as we claim our inheritance as fabulous folx of all backgrounds, shapes, and colors.

We must be honest about who we are and what we want without fear of reprisal in a time when drag queens and our trans family are under attack. If we do receive flack for embracing who we are, then go ahead and embody Aries’ warrior spirit and fight back. Throw a stiletto, throw a brick if you have to -- the world will be a better place for your fierceness.

Such resilience in the face of all that’s taking place in the world today may seem like a hard ask. That said, this new Moon occurs in conjunction with Mercury. Your emotions can be a powerful force for good, if you can wield them conscientiously. Don't get distracted by anger and sadness -- use them as tools to fight oppression.

This week’s planetary positions invite us to start over by cultivating a fresh, creative vision for ourselves. Make space for authentic self-expression without needing to refine your best impulses.

Your personal horoscope this week is defined by the New Moon’s house placement in relation to your sign. You should read for both your Sun sign, for the ‘big picture’, and your rising sign, for ‘where the work is’.
