Forget the “rules” — just be who you want to be!

Happy astrological new year! The Sun enters Aries on the 20th, the day of the Spring Equinox. The days are getting longer and the end of winter is nigh, at last.

This is an especially auspicious Equinox because it aligns with a New Moon in Aries. New Moons are great times to set intentions for the next six months until it is full again in the same sign. It's time to get excited about your summer plans and spend way too much money on a new Charlie swimsuit.

The New Moon in Aries tells us that we have nothing to prove. Too often, we are asked by society to edit ourselves based on how we are expected to be perceived. We can’t be flamboyant, can’t be too queer, can’t defy gender norms, can't stuff our pandemic bodies into a speedo. Well, forget that! Let's be straightforward, active, and resilient as we claim our inheritance as fabulous folx of all backgrounds, shapes, and colors.

We must be honest about who we are and what we want without fear of reprisal in a time when drag queens and our trans family are under attack. If we do receive flack for embracing who we are, then go ahead and embody Aries’ warrior spirit and fight back. Throw a stiletto, throw a brick if you have to -- the world will be a better place for your fierceness.

Such resilience in the face of all that’s taking place in the world today may seem like a hard ask. That said, this new Moon occurs in conjunction with Mercury. Your emotions can be a powerful force for good, if you can wield them conscientiously. Don't get distracted by anger and sadness -- use them as tools to fight oppression.

This week’s planetary positions invite us to start over by cultivating a fresh, creative vision for ourselves. Make space for authentic self-expression without needing to refine your best impulses.

Your personal horoscope this week is defined by the New Moon’s house placement in relation to your sign. You should read for both your Sun sign, for the ‘big picture’, and your rising sign, for ‘where the work is’.

March 21 – April 19

With the New Moon in your 1st House of Self, focus on re-envisioning who you are, what you want, and how you’re going to get it. You don't need permission to live your life to its fullest.

April 20 – May 20

The New Moon in your 12th House of Endings asks that you find closure for any old wounds so that they no longer weigh you down. If you want to get over your fear of rejection, you're just going to have to risk it.

May 21 – June 20

In your 11th House of Connection, the New Moon wants you to stop hiding your true self from the world and to let it shine instead. Confident is sexier than shy, so untuck your tail and start wagging.

June 21 – July 22

With the New Moon in your 10th House of Reputation, focus on reinventing your public or career life if things seem too stale. Don't forget to take stock of where you are now to compare your progress later on.

July 23 – Aug. 22

The New Moon in your 9th House of Expansion invites you to get out of your own way so that what’s meant for you can arrive. You might want to lean into learning something new to help open your mind in the meantime.

Aug. 23 – Sept. 22

In your 8th House of Mutuality, the New Moon asks you to be honest with yourself about your relationship with sex and money. Both are an exchange of energy... but where are you giving too much and taking too little, so to speak?

Sept. 23 – Oct. 22

With the New Moon in your 7th House of Relationship, now is the time to make sure you’re receiving as much as you tend to give. It's in the giving of themselves that your closest connections reveal their true natures.

Oct. 23 – Nov. 21

The New Moon in your 6th House of Wellness invites you to hit the reset button on your habits and health. How do you process your emotions, especially anger? Make it intentional and constructive.

Nov. 22 – Dec. 21

In your 5th House of Expression, the New Moon lights up new paths toward being who you are and letting the world see. Lean on your inner child for a fresh sense of curiosity as you explore.

Dec. 22 – Jan. 19

With the New Moon in your 4th House of Home, it’s time for a proper spring cleaning. Out with the old to make room for the new. Maybe time to apply a fresh coat of paint to whatever's drab in your life.

Jan. 20 – Feb. 18

The New Moon in your 3rd House of Learning invites you to unlearn whatever is preventing you from making real progress. Break free from stale routines. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

Feb. 19 – March 20

In your 2nd House of Worth, the New Moon invites you to stop repeating any self doubts and focus more on self worth. Like all the daffodils are doing this month, it's time for you to bloom.
