“It’s Barbie and Ken, there is no just Ken,” he protests.

The song of the summer just dropped, and it’s called “Just Ken.”

On Monday, July 10, Warner Bros. Pictures released the music video for “Just Ken,” which is Ryan Gosling’s song in the Barbie movie. In the video, Ken has a full existential crisis about always being an accessory to Barbie. “It’s Barbie and Ken,” he explains, “there is no just Ken.”

Gosling then starts singing what is surely going to be a big contender for song of the summer. “Doesn’t seem to matter what I do / I’m always number two / No one knows how hard I’ve tried / I have feelings that I can’t explain / Driving me insane / All my life been so polite.”

He continues, “‘Cause I’m just Ken / Anywhere else I’d be a ten / Is it my destiny to live and die / A life of blond fragility?”

Later in the song, Ken reveals how he really feels about Barbie. “I’m just Ken / Where I see love, she sees a friend / What will it take for her to see the man behind the tan / And fight for me?”

This campy and totally unserious song has us even more excited about the Barbie movie. This music video is also putting Gosling’s incredibly nuanced performance on full display, which is already receiving massive praise from people who have seen early screenings of the film.

The music video also takes every opportunity to show Gosling without his shirt on, working out, and looking sexier than ever. We have to stan!

Barbie premieres July 21 in theaters.
