The movie is coming to Amazon Prime Video this September!

Let’s get ready to rumble!

We can’t wait to watch the upcoming Amazon Prime Video film Cassandro, starring Gael García Bernal in the larger-than-life true story of Mexico’s first out gay luchador. The movie follows Saúl Armendáriz, who grew up in El Paso, Texas near the U.S.-Mexico border with dreams of becoming a famous luchador.

Cassandro follows Armendáriz (played by García Bernal) as he, with the help of his new trainer Sabrina (A League of Their Own’s Roberta Colindrez), comes up with the flamboyant and over-the-top wrestling persona of Cassandro, known as the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.”

Cassandro took the machismo-driven world of wrestling by surprise, becoming a fan-favorite and the first foreign-born wrestler to win a world title in Mexico.

Bernal is joined in the cast by Perla De La Rosa, Joaquín Cosío, Raúl Castillo, and, most intriguingly, Grammy-winning singer Bad Bunny.

Now, a new image of García Bernal and Bad Bunny from the movie has been released, showing the two smiling at each other while sitting close together in nature.

Previously, a photo of the two of them kissing in the movie was released, so it’s safe to assume that Bad Bunny plays a romantic interest of Cassandro’s.

Cassandro, directed by Roger Ross Williams, premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim. It will be released in limited theaters on September 15, and then premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 22.
