Ms. Nicki Minaj was everywhere last New York Fashion Week, sitting front row alongside Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour at Carolina Herrera and creating a paparazzi-induced frenzy with her cotton-candy bouffant at Prabal Gurung. If spitting rhymes is her full-time first love, fashion risk-taking certainly comes in as a close second. And as part of the long tradition of rappers incorporating boasts about their connections to the world of luxury fashion, Nicki's lyrics reflect the industry and how it's embraced her crazy ways. As one song goes: "When I'm sitting with Anna, I'm really sitting with Anna / Ain't a metaphor punchline, I'm really sitting with Anna / Front row at Oscar de la Renta, posture / Ain't a bitch that could do it, not even my imposter." Sitting front row at a fashion show is one thing, but having the chutzpah to brag about it is quite another. Regardless, we're proud of Nicki and all her accomplishments--she's certainly earned her bragging rights. [The Cut]
