After the lavish, garishly glamorous unveiling of H&M's last collaboration with Versace, fashion lovers couldn't help but wonder, deep in the back of their brains, "How will H&M ever top this?" Well, the Swedish retailer took a decidedly different, and savvy, approach to their follow-up. Instead of trying to one-up themselves, they tapped the Italian luxury label Marni, headed by Consuelo Castiglioni, to impart some subdued quirk to the mega-brand. The brand, which has gained a cult following for its print-happy, eccentric, and kooky aesthetic, is often thought of as the dream wardrobe for the creative/cerebral working girl (Think Sally Singer). I always imagine it lining the closet of a really chic librarian or Ms. Frizzle of the children's book The Magic Schoolbus. The men's offereings, are, admittedly a tad more subdued, but they certainly retain a sense of indiviuality and nonchalance--not a bad combo.
