Well. That's it. Despite the fact that I'm an embittered anti-romantic, there was always one minuscule soft spot on my cold, dark heart that believed in love enough to cherish the relationship between Seal and Heidi Klum. They just seemed so damned happy, and in turn, it made me happy for them. So you can only imagine how hard my heart sank on Saturday when TMZ reported that the couple and decided to officially call it lickity-splits. That gave me a major case of the frowns (thank God this news broke on Saturday and I could go drown my sorrows at the nearest bar). Last night, the couple confirmed the reports and released this statement announcing their seperation:
"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate.
We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.
We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."
Well, this is a huge bummer, seriously. I remember watching them on Oprah, and they were adorable together, and appeared to be completely smitten with each other. Any previous hopes, no matter how minor, of there being such thing as true love, have officially been dashed.
