Daily Crush: Barragán's 'Lesbian' Tee

For spring '17, designer Victor Barragan appropriated the iconic Friends logo, replacing the seven letters with "Lesbian" in all caps on a plain black tee. The back of his Mexican-made t-shirt reads, "Money Makes Me Cum," in more relatable banter. The entire tee, now available online for $160, is a critical reflection of '90s pop culture and mainstream television's tendency to make open jokes about LGBTQ people.

"With the Friends tee, I've watched the show all my life," the Mexico City-bred talent told i-D. "Recently, I was watching one of the first seasons with my friend and we noticed a trend of making jokes about gays and lesbians. Someone said 'lesbian' and there was a fake laugh. We were like, 'This stuff is fucked up!' At the time, we may have thought it was funny, but it's different now. That was a critique of the show that we realized too much later."
