Michael Bastian updates an American classic.

Love it or hate it, the preppy revival shows no signs of slowing down. Three decades after the publication of The Official Preppy Handbook, author Lisa Birnbach has released a follow-up, True Prep: It's a Whole New World; popped collars and madras prints can be seen on music's cool elite, from Vampire Weekend to Kanye West, on- and offstage; and even Harvard has gotten hip to the trend, as evidenced by the launch this year of its Harvard Yard fashion label. Cue the stylish reentry of classic American label Gant (est. 1949).With his own line of tailored and distressed ready-to-wear chinos, sweaters, flannels, and accessories already under his braided belt, designer Michael Bastian was tapped to revive the brand. The lacrosse-inspired look is familiar but updated. "The Gant guy is more casual and a little more athletic than the Michael Bastian guy, but with a modern edge," says Bastian (center). Hence, fitted embroidered corduroys paired with slim-cut polo shirts and lace-up rugby shirts matched wth mesh gym shorts. It's preppy made sexy.
