Jon Ashe: Delight In The Detail

A menswear line from a former wedding gown designer? Jon Ashe, the new line from Jonas Hegewisch, (thankfully) bears little resemblance to the matrimonial. Hegewisch's Autumn/Winter 09 collection comes from an on-trend standpoint with American and European work-wear inspired looks that are appropriately tailored and alluringly detailed.

Born in German, raised in Hamburg and London, and educated at FIT in New York, Hegewisch's work with wedding gowns actually benefits his menswear. There's a sophisticated sense of proportion and line balanced by texture and detail. His fabrics come from small artisan European mills that wear well with age. Better yet, his attention to detail: the pocket treatments, the flamed natural horn buttons, and distinctively colored topstitching all add to a harmony of looks easily transitional from day to night, season to season. And the line was designed as separates, so mixing and matching pieces means they'll go an extra few steps not only with each other but also with your wardrobe. Think of it as a line for hipster bar-frequenting city boys but maintain a rugged sensibility.
