A glorious dance ends as soon as the curtain has descended to the stage. But in Move (powerHouse, $50) photographer James Houston has captured the raw energy and sensation of movement in stunning sculptural black-and-white images of some remarkable human bodies in motion.
Houstons previous books, Raw, Rawmoves, and One Yogamoves, all focus on the human body. Dancers from Americas foremost dance companies, including New York City Ballet, Pilobolus, David Parsons, and Alvin Ailey, gave their time to support Move, the author royalties of which go to DRA (Dancers Responding to AIDS).
Hunky actor and Houstons Australian countryman Hugh Jackman wrote the foreword to Move. The book is part of the Move for AIDS project which also incorporates photographic exhibitions, a special documentary on the shooting of the book, and dance performances by some of the worlds leading dance companies to launch the project around the world.
