Drag Race season 1 star Victoria “PorkChop” Parker was hospitalized following a medical emergency.
The reality drag competition production company World of Wonder shared a handwritten note explaining what had happened to PorkChop, who was the very first queen ever eliminated on the RuPaul-hosted show.
PorkChop’s team reported that the drag queen "has experienced a serious health setback and was hospitalized after eating a hamburger from a major grocery chain, and is now facing a number of ongoing medical challenges.”
The note said that PorkChop ended up “vomiting, had diarrhea, and was severely dehydrated” shortly after eating the burger, and was sick for 72 hours before 911 was called and she was transported to the hospital.
PorkChop was admitted to the hospital for a week, where she received antibiotics and was "given physical therapy while doctors ran multiple tests,” Entertainment Weekly reports. In the end, she was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation), acute kidney injury, hyponatremia from an intestinal infection, and hypertension.
The note explained that PorkChop will be "bed-bound for the next 14 to 21 days,” and although she "is expected to make a full recovery,” she will need financial help.
"As he works toward recovery, his immediate needs that would greatly improve his quality of life would be a motorized scooter to help him get around, and assistance with personal 24-hour security would be deeply appreciated," the note said.
"Sometimes a small act of kindness can make a meaningful difference for someone who has spent so many years bringing joy to others," the note concluded. "We hope the community will keep PorkChop in their thoughts and consider lending support in whatever way they may be able.”
World of Wonder’s Instagram post provides a link to a GoFundMe page requesting $6000 in donations for PorkChop’s care. So far, a little more than $4,600 have been raised.
Fellow Drag Race alums DD Fuego and Bianca Del Rio are listed in the donation section, and World of Wonder is listed as a $1500 donor.
