Andy Cohen and Ryan Seacrest are two of the biggest names when it comes to televised New Year's Eve countdowns, but that doesn't mean they're close to each other.
Seacrest is the host of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which airs on ABC, while Cohen cohosts CNN's NYE coverage with his BFF Anderson Cooper. Both telecasts are filmed at Times Square in New York City. But that geographical closeness doesn't mean that the two hosts are chumming it up together. According to Seacrest, Cohen actually ignored him on the big night.
"My big stage was right in front of Anderson [Cooper] and Andy and so when I was not working, I was trying to get their attention," Seacrest said to his co-host Kelly Rippa on Live! With Kelly and Ryan. "I thought maybe I was in the shot. I just wanted to wave and say hi. You know, they have a great show."
Seacrest then said that Cooper turned around, waved, and mouthed "have a good show." Alas, he added that "Andy did not turn around."
While Seacrest claimed to be snubbed, his co-host, Kelly Ripa, who is friends with Cohen, said he was mistaken. "That's not true," she said, "He said he was trying to get your attention."
This surprised Seacrest, who responded "Really? I'm like, 'Hey, it's me! Guys, it's me! Put me in your shot. Put me in your background."
Now, Cohen has responded on Sirus XM show. "Ryan, I don't know, he's got a bug up about me two weeks in a row," Cohen said about Seacrest.
Cohen is now claiming that he didn't even see Seacrest or notice him.
"I didn't see Anderson turn around and wave. Usually what Anderson will do, and I should, I should call him back and ask him about this, frankly. But I think he'll yell at me if I do... usually if he's waving at Ryan, he'll say to me, 'Hey, there's Ryan.' You know what I mean?" Cohen said. "Yeah. And then I'll turn around and wave or I'll say, 'There's Ryan,' but he didn't do that."
Cohen then did actually call Cooper, and asked why he didn't tell him that Seacrest was behind them. "It all happened so fast, it wasn't a big deal," Cooper said, and indicated that he assumed Cohen had seen Seacrest earlier in the night.
"So you didn't purposely not say 'hi' to Ryan?" Cohen's co-host asked. "No! I didn't see him," Cohen emphatically responded.
This isn't the first time the two hosts have butted heads over their rival NYE shows. In 2021, Cohen had been drinking during his show when he called out the ABC show. "If you look behind me, you'll see Ryan Seacrest's group of losers performing," Cohen said during his broadcast. "I'm sorry, but if you're watching ABC, you're watching nothing."
Cohen later apologized, saying he was "overserved" that night. "The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing is that I slammed the ABC broadcast," he said on his Radio Andy talk show. "And I really like Ryan Seacrest and he's a great guy and I really regret saying that and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it."
This year, Seacrest threw back his own shade this year when he commented that it's "probably a good idea" for CNN to cut back on the amount of alcohol served to its hosts this year.
It seems the feud is still going strong.
