Nick Carter's Big Guns in the 'Boybands v. Zombies Western' Trailer

First, there was the socially relevant George Romero classic Night of the Living Dead, which is still studied in film schools, since it was the first major film to feature a black protagonist (little known fact!). Then came lots of gentrifying white people battling zombies, in 1970s shopping malls and beyond. After that, we had amusement park workers versus zombies, and Cockneys vs Zombies (that was the actual title), and last year, it was boyscouts versus zombies. Just last month, Jane Austen's characters also found themselves fighting zombies in the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Are you feeling a trend?

Now, as we previously reported, boybands are joining the post-apocalyptic zombie fight. That's right! Boyband members. Versus. Zombies. And out in the good ol' West, no less!

Usually, things evolve forwards, but in the case of the zombie movie genre, things have clearly decayed and degenerated into rotting, gleeful mayhem. In the new trailer for the Syfy original flick Dead 7, we discover some older fresh faces that we remember from the '90s and early '00s as eternally smiley and prepubescent crooners: Backstreet Boys' very own Nick Carter, along with band members A.J. McLean and Howie Dorough, *Nsync's Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone (who's also in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 this month), 98 Degrees' Jeff Timmons, and those kids from from O-Town. O-Town?! O, you are takin' me back.

Syfy has become a haven for delicious B-movie fare, and Dead 7 promises to be a formidable addition to the array of cooky zombie flicks, since it's made by the producers of the Sharknado series, a successful phenomenon which has paved the way for this type of silly TV movie to be made for years--and years--to come. And happily, Carter can add writer to his list of accomplishments here. This is not only a zombie western starring boyband members, it's written by one.

As for the trailer, it of course makes perfect sense, especially Howie Dorough playing a ninja samurai warrior dude in this zombified western landscape. But beyond the boybanders, our favorite character, by far, is this chick:

...maybe she's pissed she didn't make it into Mad Max Fury Road? In any case, charming.

While the trailer features some familiar tunes in the background, there is no direct nod to an actual musical interlude in the movie itself. But, like, c'mon--musicals are still really in. We really hope these boys end up winning over the undead masses with their earnest love songs. Now that would be good TV!
