The Sounds' whirlwind mini-tour of the US finishes tomorrow, and both the Chicago and New York shows are sold out. Then they're heading back to Sweden to (finally) record their third album. However! I have two pieces of obsessive love to tide you over.
1> There are after-parties in both cities DJ'd by the scorching guitarist and keyboard player, Felix Rodriguez and Jesper Anderberg. The band posted info for getting on the respective lists on their MySpace: For Chicago, email [email protected], and for New York, go here.
2> My interview with singer Maja Ivarsson is up at Out.com! She talks all about her girlfriend of three
years, the pretty boys in her band, and how even breaking three ribs on
stage won't slow her down. Also she seems to be under some kind of impression that she's not in possession of any "sexy parts":
What inspires your look?
don't have any big boobs or big butts or any sexy parts like that -- so
I think I need to work with what I have. I like hot pants, and I could
never go on stage without high heels, because it makes your legs look
You manage to do some pretty insane jumps while you're wearing shoes like that...
yeah -- but I think that's the key. I'm not afraid of making a fool of
myself. As long as you're not afraid of that, whatever you do becomes
very sexy. But actually I broke my ribs -- three of them! I was
standing on top of the monitor. We were outdoors, and it was rainy, and
I was wearing high heels, of course. I slipped and I fell right on my
ribs. It hurt so bad.
Did you keep singing?
I did. It
was in the middle of the song! People were hysterical. It was a big
festival in Sweden. It's on YouTube if you want to see it.
All of the great falls are on YouTube.
know! I've seen it once. I don't want to see it again. All the guys are
like -- “Rewind...go forward...let's watch it again!” But I didn't cancel
one show after that.
I don't think she was lying to me, but a good half-hour of searching on YouTube has left me without the actual documentation of Maja the Unstoppable. Anyone who can turn up the footage wins a huge gold star from Popnography and a post on the subject of your choice!
