“Here is the thing about truth: Once you see it, you cannot un-see it.”
Best-selling author Elizabeth Gilbert revealed in a Facebook post Wednesday afternoon that she is in a relationship with longtime friend, Rayya Elias.
The Eat, Pray, Love author said that after Elias was diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer, she realized her true feelings for her friend.
"Death--or the prospect of death--has a way of clearing away everything that is not real," she said, "and in that space of stakr and utter realness, I was faced with this truth: I do not merely love Rayya; I am in love with Rayya."
Gilbert details how she decided to come out once the summer ended--so she could "live my life in truth and transparency."
Fans on social media praised the author for coming out and wished the couple well.
