Congratulations to the happy couple, may you have many gay years together!
Comedian Hannah Gadsby, known for her Netflix specials like Nanette and Douglas, and "producer extraordinaire" Jenney Shamash have gotten married, as announced by Gadsby on Instagram.
"I would like to introduce all y'all to Jenney Shamash," Gadsby wrote, "She is a producer extraordinaire. She is very funny and is really talented at reciting facts. It is a joy to behold. We got married in January and we are very chuffed about it. For the record: this is me gushing. I am full of very positive feelings. This is a nice story. My heart felt thanks to everybody who voted for marriage equality." She also included the hashtags "married," "really?" and "yeahtotally."
Given that Gadsby lives in Australia, marriage equality was only passed in late 2017. It took a plebiscite, or a massive public vote, for the initiative to pass. At the time many, including Gadsby talked about the harm that putting such an issue up for public debate could cause.
In 2018 the Australian comedian took the comedy world by storm with her unconventional comedy special Nanette on Netflix. In the special she covers subjects from gender, art, trauma, and the #metoo movement. The special became one of the most critically acclaimed of the year. She's known for her dry wit and refusal to back down from difficult topics.
In her 2020 special Douglas, Gadsby talked about being diagnosed with Autism and praised the word "y,'all," which she used in her marriage announcement. ""I'm taking 'y'all," she says in it. "I love y'all. Because y'all is the best, most-inclusive second person pronoun in the English-speaking world. Thank you The South, what an ally!"
Once, again, congratulations to both of the, love wins!
