Undoubtedly inspired by immersive theater experiences like Sleep No More and Queen of the Night, 8Players pushes the thespian boundaries even further by actually assigning audience members an active role in its production.
As its name implies, 8Players gathers eight audience members for a custom-tailored adventure. No two nights are ever the same. Players arrive at an undisclosed location and are quickly inducted into a scenario involving seven other strangers. Under an alias specifically created for each individual, attendees quickly lose all inhibitions as they roam the set, chatting with the other guests, while unfolding a deadly mystery.
8Players offers several genre choices and such adventures like Girls Boarding School Melodrama, '80s Erotic Thriller, or '90s Teen Horror. 8Players creator Ross Tipograph says:
"These shows are painstakingly created with queer film lovers in mind. My eyes are destroyed from the laptop labor, but I'm thrilled by the shows that are out there now. Enter our '90s Teen Horror show and you're Neve Campbell barely surviving the pain. Enter the '80s Erotic Thriller and you're Al Pacino chasing a serial killer. Enter Girls Boarding School and walk the halls of Heavenly Creatures to that incredible music in a ridiculous uniform."
8Players will run from December 5 through January 20 in Greenwich Village and Downtown Brooklyn, NYC. Tickets are $75 and include four drinks throughout the night. Purchase here.
