A British Music Competition Aired a Version of ‘Born This Way’ With No Pro-LGBTQ Lyrics
It was at VMAs in 2010, dressed in head-to-toe meat, that Lady Gaga first sang "I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby, I was born this way." And never once did her LGBTQ fans, whom she has been fiercely loyal to, doubt that the song was about them.
But during a recent performance of "Born This Way" by the band Iron Sun on the British television show Let It Shine, it was hard to find a message in the song at all. That's because every mention of LGBTQ inclusion had been removed from the performance, right down to the famous "don't be a drag, just be a queen."
According to Noisey, the BBC had to cut the song for time, and apparently the most choppable lines were everything about queer people.
"All songs featured were cut for time only," a Let It Shine spokesperson told Noisey, also noting that all performances that night included a dance break. Ok, but what about the lackluster vocal runs and "booboir?" Whoever the worst dancer is (which is hard to tell) should have sang the song's breakdown during the dance routine. The performance would remain intact and so would the integrity of one of the most iconic LGBTQ songs of this generation. Watch below and read the full story on Noiseyhere.
