"The woman who dresses America" is the way a 2013 New York Times article described Lyons, who began her career at J. Crew almost 25 years ago as an assistant designer fresh out of Parsons. It's largely thanks to Lyons's leadership that J. Crew has maintained its unique position as an affordable but hip fashion brand, with revenues in excess of $2 billion. A substantial slowdown in 2014 has taken off some of the gloss, but if anyone can pull off a comeback, Lyons can.
