It's the natural course breaking news stories that they begin as a single headline or announcement and quickly multiply and spread across the internet. After a day of watercooler talk, the primetime, serious news programs of the evening examine the stories and present them with the cold, hard facts they've gathered. Then comes the late night hosts, ready to tear into the story with their humorous fangs and claws and give viewers some comic relief after a day of newsfeed flooding.
When it comes to Matt Lauer's firing from NBC for inappropriate sexual behavior, Seth Meyers was ready to pounce. During his "Closer Look" segment on Late Night, Meyers pull exactly zero punches when laying out the newly released details of the allegations against his former colleague.
"As a general rule, if you're giving someone a dildo at work, you're the dildo at work," the host said, referring to an accusation that Lauer gifted a female coworker with a sex toy and told her how he wanted to use it.
Another detail that became the perfect setup for Meyers was that Lauer often played the game "Fuck, Marry, Kill" with female producers as a way to quiz them on who they'd slept with. "I don't know who you said you'd marry in those conversations," said Meyers, "but I know that you killed your career, and you fucked yourself." Watch the clip, below.
