Mr. Smithers Will Finally Come Out on The Simpsons

It's one of the worst-kept secrets in Springfield: Waylon Smithers is gay. More people know that than know what state they live in, but the one person who matters most to Smithers is the one who's still in the dark: his boss and object of his unrequired affection, Mr. Burns.

"In Springfield now, most people know he's gay, but obviously Burns doesn't," Simpsons showrunner Al Jean told TVLine. "We deal with that in two episodes... we actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciated him and considers his options."

After all these years of Mr. Burns-filled birthday cakes, Mr. Burns tattoos, and unending Mr. Burns pining, hopefully Smithers coming out has a positive effect on the elderly tyrant of Springfield
