The Op-Ed Is Bullshit. Mitt Romney Only Cares About Power.

The incoming Utah senator’s milquetoast criticism of Donald Trump wildly misses the point (any point).

Mitt Romney mildly criticized Donald Trump Wednesday morning, which is what Mitt Romney does when he doesn't want anything from Donald Trump.

In an op-ed for The Washington Post, the failed presidential candidate slash Utah senator-elect writes that the failed human being slash current President of the United States is doing a very bad job -- not because his administration is separating migrant families at the border or giving power to accused rapists, but because he's being very impolite, which is bad.

"After he became the nominee, I hoped his campaign would refrain from resentment and name-calling. It did not. When he won the election, I hoped he would rise to the occasion," says Romney in a weird bit of historical revisionism that omits his having called Trump a "phony" and a "fraud" earlier that same year. "But, on balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions last month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office."

"A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect," he writes. "The world is also watching. America has long been looked to for leadership... and it is in America's interest to provide it."

It's here where Romney reveals what really motivates him. He doesn't care about the people harmed by federal government policy. He just wants the leader of that government to be more civil when he's speaking in mixed company. He also seems very concerned about how Trump's bad behavior is reflecting back on the United States' reputation internationally and how it might loosen the American empire's stranglehold on the rest of the world, which would be of concern to him if he's angling for a third presidential run in 2020, as the op-ed suggests. It's power Romney cares about. Not people. Power.

Anyway, here's a video of Romney ironing his clothes while he's still wearing them.
