Actor-comedian Brendan O'Carroll is an Irish super star, known for his portrayal of foul-mouthed matriarch Agnes Brown in the BBC television sitcom Mrs. Brown's Boys. In the character of Mrs. Brown, he delivers a heartfelt plea for marriage equality, asking "what's the fecking fuss?"
The Republic of Ireland will hold a referendum on marriage equality on May 22. Here's hoping it goes better than a recent failed parliamentary vote in Northern Ireland, which now is now alone among the countries of the United Kingdom in disallowing same-sex marriage (last year, same-sex marriage went into effect in England and Wales at the end of March, and in Scotland at the end of December).
Says Mrs. Brown, "Nothing beats the joy and contentment I feel knowing that my son Rory has just as much opportunity for happiness as everybody else's son. And that's all I ask for him, the opportunity."
