New York's queerest parade outside Pride will be lead by the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's children, Dante and Chiara it was confirmed today. The annual event, in which participants channel their inner mermaid or mermen, and other mythical creatures, has long been a magnet for artists, performers, and the LGBT community. Dante and Chiara will be following in the footsteps of some illustrious kings and queens past, including Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson, Queen Latifah, Harvey Keitel, and David Byrne. In keeping with tradition, they will be wheeled in the parade in an antique wicker Boardwalk Rolling Chair dating from 1923. The parade takes place this year on Saturday, June 21.
