Amazing. Incredible. Astonishing. Uncanny. These colorful adjectives are intertwined with today's most iconic super-heroes, efficiently describing their ethos while boosting them to a near-legendary status (click here if you don't believe us). And now, thanks to comics like Ultimate Spider-Man, it looks like Gay could possibly join their ranks.
In case you missed it, Marvel Comics revealed earlier this week that a half-black, half-latino teenager by the name of Miles Morales would be the new Spider-Man for their "Ultimate" universe. While diversity exists in the super-hero realm, Morales certainly takes the cake now for being the highest-profile minority in tights. Amidst the media field-day over this progressive, and somewhat polarizing move, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man artist Sara Pichelli said this to USA Today:
"Maybe sooner or later a black or gay -- or both -- hero will be considered something absolutely normal."
We like the sound of that. Love it or hate it, Marvel's move certainly lays the foundations for a day when Gay can be proudly emblazoned on a cover. We're already working on our theme song.
