As we reported back in November, rumors were swirling that Anna Wintour had picked Lady Gaga to be Vogue's March cover girl. The rumor was seemingly confirmed by Gaga's camp, but now, it would appear, we have actual evidence. Twitter die-hard @ItsShavon sent out two pictures into the Twitosphere last night, one of the cover, and one of an inside shot.
It's an interesting change for both parties, and it appears that Gaga was finally strong-armed by the great Anna, thought there were definitely negotiations on both ends to make this pairing work. The cover maintains its Vogue-like appearance -- nothing too outrageous is happening save for a light pink bob and purple lipstick -- but its a nice break from her usual outlandish antics to see a softer, more feminine side of Gaga. On the other hand, she is by no means trying to emulate a classic, Vogue idea of beauty -- which tends to be a bit frillier and fussier than this -- and compared to other cover girls she still maintains a bit of her outre edge. Both shots are also incredibly sexy, with lots of leg and cleavage showing, something that isn't always a priority for the magazine. We do have to say, however, we think it could have been in Vogue's best interest, ultimately, to let Gaga be Gaga and maybe bring some more fantastical, darker themes to the plate -- God knows that Vogue's branding is strong enough to withstand a one-month sabbatical from its more standard cover approach -- and it leaves us wondering who was in charge of styling the shoot (photographer was Mario Testino, FYI): Team Vogue or Team Gaga, or a collaborative effort?
Regardless, what are your thoughts on the cover? Will you be picking up a March Vogue just for Gaga?
