The former Dawson's Creek actor opened up in a series of Twitter posts offering support for the women who've revealed their personal experiences with Weinstein. "For anyone judging the women who stayed silent, read this for perspective," he said, sharing this article from The Cut.

He continued, recounting his own abuse. "I've had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I've had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger," he said. "I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There's a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome."

Van Der Beek left his assaulter unnamed, which he says put many mentors, champions and friends into "wrongful speculation." He says, "I realize I left a door open by not initially naming, but please don't impugn innocent people w/out cause."
