Dan Amboyer was one of the actors in the "keep your private life private" camp until he recently came out in a big way: by announcing he married his longtime boyfriend. It's not hard to wonder how the Younger star flew under the radar for so long, with co-stars like Nico Tortorella, who is always eager to discuss his sexual fluidity, eclipsing many other members of the cast.
Now, in a recent interview with People, Amboyer opened up about getting his start in the industry and his recent wedding. "Being a young actor in the industry, I had a lot of people who strongly advised me to stay quiet," he said. "That was hard to live with. But I've never played a gay role before and I didn't want to be limited by some strange perception."
But after a decade-long relationship with his financial planner, Eric P. Berger, Amboyer has taken a big step in his personal love life and a big risk in his professional life. Over the weekend the two were married in New York City, ensuring that they'll tackle whatever comes next together. "It was a hard decision to figure out how to approach it in a public way," he said. "There are some actors out there now hwo just keep it as an unspoken aspect of their life and never discuss it in public. But then there are men like Matt Bomer and Zachary Quinto. I look up to them and see how them being so open affected other people and the country's perception of gay people."
