'RuPaul's Drag Race' favorite drops 'Hot Couture' all over us

It’s winter and a young man’s mind is about to turn to—what else?—RuPaul’s Drag Race. But while we daydream about new queens, ferocious looks and extensive shade, we mustn’t forget the queens who came before. And how could we, the way those girls hog the spotlight?

The latest fallen doll to prance back into the public eye is none other than Manila Luzon, whose debut music video “Hot Couture” debuts today. (The single is available on iTunes.)

The song is a deliciously classic drag pop affair: rhymes about clothes and being fierce, incredible costumes and hair and make-up that might as well have come out of Industrial Light And Magic. To Luzon’s credit, the song and video are both fun and hold your attention—we’re particularly fond of her as Gaga and Imelda Marcos.

So, as you look toward Monday, when a whole new crop of girls will compete to be America’s next favorite drag queen, never forget those who came before, blazing a trail for all ladyboys with reality TV dreams. Watch Luzon’s video, below, to see what we mean.

Love the article, but I'm kind of sad it didn't touch on the part of the video where it showed the boy who clearly is suppose to represent Manila as a child, first trying on make-up and foreshadowing who he would become.

But like I said, still a great article :)
