Fund This: Short Documentary on Trans Healthcare in America

After the success of his first short documentary, South of the Ohio, Christian Hendricks is venturing back into the Deep South to chronicle the struggle for transgender Americans, not only in the country as a whole, but in a region where life can be notoriously hard for LGBT individuals.

Only five states offer basic transgender healthcare needs, one in five trans people in the U.S. report lacking any kind of healthcare whatsoever, and many who are insured have a difficult time getting reimbursements. These combined factors have pushed some people to forego professional guidance and attempt to self-medicate, which can be very dangerous.

Hendricks' Kickstarter campaign is aiming for a modest $2500 and is very close to reaching its goal before it closes in the next three days. Since he owns most of his own equipment, most of the money will go to travel costs and any other supplementary equipment he might need. Perks for donating include early access to the film, a copy of the portrait book, <>emSouth of the Ohio, and even a producer credit in the film.
