In case you missed it, Trump interrupted a ceremony honoring Navajo Native American war veterans yesterday to mock Elizabeth Warren by calling her "Pocahontas." Here's what he said to the veterans precisely:
"I just want to thank you because you are very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here. Although, we have a representative in Congress who has been here a long time ... longer than you -- they call her Pocahontas!"
Trump's long favored the nickname "Pocahontas" as a jab at Warren, who has said on the record that she is a small part Native American. Warren responded to Trump's name calling on Anderson Cooper 360, saying,
"There he was, at a ceremony to honor Native Americans, men who have really put it all on the line to save American lives, to save lives of people, our allies, during World War II, really amazing people. And President Trump couldn't even make it through a ceremony to honor these men without throwing in a racial slur."
After the National Congress of American Indians publically condemned Trump's verbage--president Jefferson Keel stated: "We regret that the President's use of the name Pocahontas as a slur to insult a political adversary is overshadowing the true purpose of today's White House ceremony"--the internet naturally attacked the President's behavior. Then Eric Trump decided to defend his dad's honor over Twitter, and tweeted this:
“The irony of an ABC reporter (whose parent company Disney has profited nearly half a billion dollars on the movie “Pocahontas”) inferring that the name is “offensive” is truly staggering to me.”— Eric Trump (@Eric Trump) 1511877845
It's wild because it appears that Eric is equating using Pocahontas' name as a derogatory slur is the same as using her name as the title of a movie about her. And, as can be expected, the Twitterverse was quick to bring light to this incredibly dumb statement:
