"I hope to take the audience to a dark, emotional space."

Natasha Khan, a.k.a. Bat for Lashes, has spent three records regaling the world with her magic realism. Now the U.K. artist is going full multimedia with The Bride, a road-trip concept album and short film inspired by everything from Donnie Darko to the land of Oz.

Out: This record is about a bride whose fiance is killed on her wedding day.

Natasha Khan: Yes, and it sends her on a journey to find love in herself. So it's about grief, loss, and coming out the other side.

What were your inspirations?

Donnie Darko, Twin Peaks, The Goonies--the things I grew up loving. Also, the road trip movie True Romance.

What's your favorite road movie?

Does The Wizard of Oz count? It has a yellow brick road...

This is Out, so yes. You'll be touring in churches and asking fans to come in their wedding finery.

The Bride would like her guests to make an effort for her big day! Rituals are rare these days. With these shows I hope to take the audience to a dark, emotional space.

Speaking of brides and death, what are your tips for surviving a wedding?

For me, tissues. I cry so much at weddings. Dance as much as you can. Get as drunk as possible.
But not so much that you throw up.
