When we heard someone describe Gretta Rochelle, the bisexual front woman for the Chicago-based dark-pop trio My Gold Mask, as a mix between Siouxsie Sioux and Karen O., we knew we just HAD to take a listen. We premiered the track, titled "Dangerous," which was recorded and mixed by Balthazar de Ley, who played with the band's "newly instilled use of electronics, including synthesizers."
My Gold Mask is incorporating this new direction, hoping to shed light in areas which enables them to better capture moods that blend with heart-wrenching lyrics and Gretta Rochelle's ever-expressive vocals.
"'Dangerous' is the first in a series of new singles that we will be unveiling in the coming months. They all have a unified cover design, signifying thematic and sonic connections," My Gold Mask explained to us. "While still vocal and guitar driven, we are currently focused on fleshing out our electronic side as a three-piece. The lyrics are about a somewhat destructive relationship that is just too compelling to come to an end, even though maybe it should."
